Lithium rich layered oxides suffer from high first cycle irreversible capacity. An approach is presented that mitigates this problem by blending the aforementioned compounds with other delithiated active materials. This also shows an improvement in the thermal stability of the resulting electrode. Results include electrochemical and thermal studies as well as synchrotron operando XRD.
