The dataset contains the information needed to reproduce all the experimental resuls shown in the paper , including information on the experimental conditions and bacterial tracks and cell lengths extracted from videos of populations of Escherichia coli swimming in the center channel of a chemotactic microfluidic device. metaData.ods is a spreadsheet listing the experimental times and conditions of all videos obtained, including those that were considered failed (see paper for details). AW405_MGM_*_tracks.csv are comma-separated-value files containing the list of bacterial tracks per each of the videos listed in metaData.ods. Data includes a track identification number spefific for each video, the mean cell length of the bacteria and the x and y positions of the centroid of the bacteria at consecutive frames. The channel of the microfluidic device is paralel to the y axis, so that the linear gradient of α-methyl-aspartate is established along the x axis. Data was retrieved from phase-contrast videos using software described in Guadayol et al 2016. Raw videos are available upon request to the authors.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 0 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
