SPA Fitoestabilización de suelos contaminados

Abstract

Introducción de plantas para la inmovilización de los elementos traza contaminantes del suelo. Las raíces de las plantas retienen el suelo, evitando que pueda ser arrastrado por la erosión hídrica o eólica. Además, las raíces pueden retener en su superficie elemento traza contaminantes del suelo, sobre todo cationes como Cd, Zn, Pb Cu o Mn, evitando que estén libres en la disolución del suelo. Es importante para que la técnica sea efectiva que la planta retenga estos elementos en el sistema radicular, y que no haya transporte de estos elementos desde la raíz a los tejidos aéreos de la planta, lo cual podría suponer un riesgo de ingestión de contaminantes por los herbívoros y la acumulación de estos contaminantes a lo largo de la cadena trófica. Para ello es preciso realizar prospecciones o ensayos previos para seleccionar las especies locales que muestren una baja acumulación de contaminantes en la biomasa aérea. Es asimismo importante que las especies usadas estén adaptadas a las condiciones ambientales locales y tengan tolerancia a la contaminación del suelo.
