Abstract

Dîwân-i-Hindû This manuscript is now IO Islamic 1559 in the India Office collections. [metadata: Hermann Ethé, Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts in the Library of the India Office, 2 vols. (Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1, number 1172 here with notations and hyperlinks]. 1559 Dîwân-i-Hindû (ديوان هندو). Lyrical poems by Hindû, who is probably identical with the author of an epic poem ليلى و مجنون, composed in Shâhjahân’s reign, before A.H. 1055 (A.D. 1645, 1646), and described in the Bodleian Cat., No. 1101. He seems also to have written a mathnawî, خسرو و شيرين , see ib. No biographical notices of this poet can be found in the tadhkiras. This dîwân contains: Ghazals, in alphabetical order, on fol. 1b, beginning: بيا اى دل هزاران شكر گو آن كردگاريرا الخ Rubâ’îs and fards, on fol. 79a, beginning: اى عشق تو سرمايۀ ايمان منست الخ. No date. A seal of Jalâl ibn Shaikh ‘Abd-alwahhâb with the year A.H. 1118 (A.D. 1706, 1707), on fol. 1a. No. 1172, ff. 88, 2 coll., each ll. 15; careless Nasta’lîḳ; size, 8¾ in. by 4¾ in.
