Abstract

Tef [Eragrostis tef (Zucc.) Trotter, also known as teff] is an allotetraploid (2n = 4x = 40) C4 cereal crop, originating in Ethiopia. Tef is characterized by high grain and feed nutritional qualities, and resilience to abiotic and biotic stresses. The objective of our study was to identify genomic regions associated with major traits of interest. A tef diversity panel (TDP-300) consisting of 297 genotypes was assembled. The panel was genotyped with 28,837 SNPs and phenotyped for productivity, lodging, and morpho-physiological traits along two seasons. Subsets of 216 and 246 genotypes were grown in 2020 and 2021, respectively, both under well-watered (WW) and water-limited (WL) treatments. In 2020, the experiment was conducted in Rehovot, Israel using an augmented experimental design with 13 check genotypes replicated in four blocks. In 2021, the experiment was conducted in Kvutzat Shiller, Israel using two main plots, one per treatment, each consisting of three replicates in a randomized block design.
