WGBIS: Bayesian inversion of wrapped satellite interferometric phase to estimate fault and volcano surface ground deformation models

Abstract
(1) Introduction WGBIS is the Bayesian geodetic inversion package that uses as observations, the interferometric wrapped phases. In WGBIS, earthquake and volcano source parameters are estimated directly from the interferometric wrapped phase, rather than the unwrapped phases, thus phase unwrapping errors are avoided. Using a Bayesian approach, WGBIS provides an assessment of the model uncertainty. Extensive testing shows that this method has the capability to escape local minima during the model inversion. (2) Novel aspects of the WGBIS method: A new method to model interferometric wrapped phase based on Bayesian inference. Wrapped observations are weighted by appropriate data covariance. An improved wrapped interferometic phase data downsampling algorithm. WGBIS further extends current state-of-the-art geodetic modelling of InSAR data to cases where phase unwrapping is difficult or impossible.
