The services sector is not only the dominant sector in India’s GDP, but has also attracted significant foreign investment, has contributed significantly to export and has provided large-scale employment. India’s services sector covers a wide variety of activities such as trade, hotel and restaurants, transport, storage and communication, financing, insurance, real estate, business services, community, social and personal services, and services associated with construction. The hospitality sector has been one of the industries hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and although restrictions have been easing, things are nothing like they were at the start of this year – and perhaps they never will be again soon. In India, a country where lockdown was lifted after a short time due to the sheer volume of people needing to work, the industry has been especially hard hit. So the sector was chosen to understand the implications of the pandemic and to figure out the future of this sector.
