Konwencja o ochronie wszystkich osób przed wymuszonym zaginięciem została przyjęta w 2006 r. i weszła w życie 23 grudnia 2010 r. Jest pierwszą uniwersalną umową międzynarodową, której celem jest zapobieganie wymuszonym zaginięciom oraz zwalczanie bezkarności przestępstwa wymuszonego zaginięcia. Dotychczas została ratyfikowana przez 63 państwa.
