D1.9: Polifonia Web portal - 1st version (V1.0)

Abstract

The Polifonia Web portal is an aggregator of data belonging to digital musical heritage collections. The tasks relevant to the development of the Polifonia Web portal include the following: • Cataloguing. A reference registry of Music Heritage resources, including but not limited to all collections used and produced in the project. By extending musoW, a catalogue of Musical Data on the Web, this task provides a new online catalogue of digital projects, data sources, archives relevant to several music-related tasks (e.g. musicology, education, journalism). • Crowdsourcing. Methods for automatic and semiautomatic generation of metadata according to the Polifonia ontologies. The task produced CLEF, a platform for Linked Open Data creation and curation, and synchronised with GitHub and Zenodo for long-term preservation (the software is used to publish musoW); • Discovery. Methods for continuous indexing of Music Heritage resources. The task has produced a pipeline for the discovery of music archives on the web that is to be included into musoW. • Design and exploration Methods for searching, querying, and browsing Music Heritage resources. The task developed (1) a graphic prototype of a Web portal5 to disseminate research results to a broad audience, and (2) a tool for creating data stories and dashboards, for a more data-driven exploration of research results of Polifonia pilots. Both the activities and the document here presented received methodological inputs from partners of WP1 (described in D1.2 Roadmap and pilot requirements), WP5 (described in D5.2 Interactive Tools for searching, browsing and exploration), and the Data Managament Plan (D7.2 Updated Data Management Plan). This task also provided input to WP6 D6.2 Plan for Exploitation, Dissemination and Communication of Results on recommendations for the sustainability of Polifonia outcomes beyond the lifespan of the project. Results described in this deliverable are summarised in table 0.1.
