Dataset 1of 2: No peaks without valleys: The stable mass transfer channel for gravitational-wave sources in light of the neutron star-black hole mass gap.

Abstract

This is data set 1 out of 2 that is necessary to reproduce all the plots in the paper: "No peaks without valleys: The stable mass transfer channel for gravitational-wave sources in light of the neutron star-black hole mass gap." The code to reproduce all the figures can be found here: https://github.com/LiekeVanSon/LowMBH_and_StableChannel Each entry is a compressed folder that contains the output (an hdf5 file named 'COMPAS_Output_wWeights.h5') of a simulation of 107 binaries, run with v02.26 from COMPAS. The name of the folder represents which values were varied w.r.t. the fiducial settings. The formatting is "Parameter"+"Variation". So "faccFIXED" means that the accreation fraction "facc" was set to "FIXED". For example, our reference model would be called: "faccFIXEDbeta0.5zetaHG6.0RemMassFRYER2012SNDELAYED", which means that: facc = FIXED beta = 0.5 zetaHG = 6.0 RemMass = FRYER2012 SN = DELAYED Below we give an overview of the parameters as they appear in the folder names, along with their name as used in COMPAS. The effect of these variables are described in the COMPAS docs. Acronym flag/name in COMPAS variations facc mass-transfer-accretion-efficiency-prescription THERMAL, FIXED beta mass-transfer-fa 0,0.25,0.5,0.75,1.0 gamma mass-transfer-angular-momentum-loss-prescription MIXTURE, ISOTROPIC fcircum mass-transfer-angular-momentum-fcircumb 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0 zetaHG zeta-Radiative-Envelope-Giant 3.5,4.5,5.5,6.0,6.5 fcore core-mass-multiplier 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 RemMass remnant-mass-prescription FRYER2012, FRYER2022 fmix fryer22-fmix 0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 1.4, 2.0, 2.8, 4.0 SN fryer-supernova-engine DELAYED, RAPID Every 'COMPAS_Output_wWeights.h5' file further contains 3 groups: 'BSE double compact objects' and 'BSE_RLOF' and a group that contains the merger rate data of the sort 'Rates_mu00.025_muz-0.05_alpha-1.77_sigma01.125_sigmaz0.05_a0.02_b1.48_c4.45_d5.9_zBinned', where every parameter points to a setting in the FastCosmicIntegration.py framework, using the metallicity dependent starformation rate density that is also described in van Son et al. 2022
