The family Cyatholipidae is represented by 23 genera and 58 species known mainly from the Afrotropical, Australian and Neotropical Regions. Six genera and 16 species are known from South Africa. They are rare spiders and most of them are restricted endemics; two species are listed as Critically Rare, two are Vulnerable, one is Endangered, one is Rare and six are listed as Data Deficient while two have a wide distribution and are of Least Concern.
