Spathipalpus philippii Rondani, 1863 ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 21. TYPE LOCALITY: “ Valdivia [Valdivia (southern Chile)]”. TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (very moldy) (MZUN: Box Muscidae M02, 16): Spathipalpus philippii Rnd., Chili [= Chile] / M. Zool. N° 11344. CURRENT STATUS: valid species (Guimarães 1971: 118, O’Hara et al. 2020: 698). REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 21) described Spathipalpus philippii from just the female sex, giving a single measurement of length, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 33) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “673”. We also found one syntype in this study.
