Cultura migratória no município de Governador Valadares: uma análise da rede de significados e seus impactos nos fluxos migratórios internacionais

Abstract

Na década de 2000, Brasil e Estados Unidos passaram por grandes choques econômicos e estruturais (positivos e negativos). Contudo, os fluxos de migração historicamente marcados do município brasileiro de Governador Valadares para os Estados Unidos permaneceram inalterados. Os fatores que explicam tal estabilidade deste sistema migratório são principalmente o papel das redes sociais e da chamada ‘Cultura da Migratória’. Este estudo foca neste segundo fator, propondo um modelo analítico cognitivo sobre a cultura da migração e, mais especificamente, a análise das representações sociais que se associam aos comportamentos migratórios a partir da análise da rede de significados. Para tanto, utilizou-se de dados de 1226 entrevistados e suas evocações sobre o objeto migração internacional para a construção das redes. A rede de significados geral apresentou uma intermediação principalmente regida pelos objetos Vida Melhor, Dinheiro, Trabalho e Oportunidade. A análise dos possíveis diferenciais de gênero, grupos etários e experiência migratória domiciliar sobre a migração internacional apontou que, embora apareçam distinções já observadas em outros trabalhos, tais não foram significativas a ponto de serem classificadas como subconjuntos culturais dentro deste fenômeno cultural. Isso sugere que a cultura migratória esteja disseminada de forma a que todos os grupos percebam a migração internacional de forma muito parecida.
