Presentation at the Workshop on "Research data systems – help or hindrance in data sharing?", hosted at eResearch Africa 2019 Conference. The presentation introduces Open Science Scholarly Communication workflows, identifying gaps in achieving the vision, and highlighting the role of OpenAIRE in Europe and beyond to overcome such issues. The presentation focuses on the specific gap of representing and sharing scholarly links between datasets and articles, and describes the work undertaken under RDA Europe by OpenAIRE, CrossRef, and DataCite to define and implement the Scholix standard as a solution to this problem. OpenAIRE has delivered and is today maintaining Scholexplorer, a service for the aggregation, resolution, and deduplication of Scholix links in order to provide a single API and UI entry-point for any potential consumer (e.g. Scopus, Zenodo, publishers, etc.).
