Use case definition and services data flows

Authors: Mario Morales;

Use case definition and services data flows

Abstract

This deliverable is a comprehensive report that provides detailed definitions of the use cases that are fundamental to the development and implementation of TERRAVISION services. The report provides an in-depth examination of each use case, including an analysis of its specific needs, operational challenges, and illustrative scenarios. These analyses were based on a thorough examination of user requirements and technological capabilities. The report delineates the requisite data flows that underpin the functioning of TERRAVISION services, thereby ensuring the seamless integration of in-situ sensors, EO data, and other pertinent data sources. This process has been carried out by several critical activities, including the definition and analysis of end-user requirements, the identification of technological and operational aspects of users, and the consideration of environmental and socio-economic features that enhance resilience and sustainability. Furthermore, the document delineates the architectural and technological specifications necessary for the construction of these use cases, in addition to outlining the way Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are to be defined for the assessment of project outcomes at each demonstration site. Moreover, the use cases define the functional requirements for systems from the perspective of end users and stakeholders. This encompasses the following elements: a dashboard for mining companies, through which they can input and track performance data; a system for monitoring ground deformations at critical mining locations, which draws upon data from insitu sensors and EO sources; the TERRAVISION platform, which enables stakeholders to share data and models for sustainable mining practices; and a tool for predicting, analysing, and mitigating the impact of mining operations on local ecosystems. The objective of the report is to establish the functionality of the systems, ensuring that all technical requirements are aligned with user needs and real-world operational demands.
