This comic was developed within the Horizon Europe project SpongeScapes to explore the use and meaning of the term “sponge” in relation to flood and drought mitigation. Based on the MSc thesis work of Louis Bonhoure, supported by interviews, media analysis, and critical refelction on terminology, it investigates how the imagery of a “sponge” has entered media, science, and policy discourses, and how this metaphor helps (and sometimes complicates) communication about water management. The comic visually communicates the findings through storytelling.
