Micrelytra fossularum

Abstract

Micrelytra fossularum (Rossi, 1790) (Heteroptera: Alydidae: Micrelytrinae: Micrelytrini) is the only species of the genus Micrelytra Laporte, 1833. The species has an Atlantic-Circum-Mediterranean distribution (HECKMANN et al., 2015; DUSOULIER, 2020; AUKEMA, 2024). So far, in Macaronesia M. fossularum has been reported from the island of Madeira (Portugal) (RIBES & HEISS, 2008; AUKEMA, 2024). Herein, the first record of M. fossularum in the Canary Islands (Spain) is reported: On 13-08- 2024, a specimen of this species was found in the village of Santa Úrsula, located in the north-western part of the island of Tenerife. A photograph of the specimen was uploaded to the online database iNaturalist (see here).
