The utilisation of waste heat in local district heating networks is influenced by various factors. With the Heat Merit Order Tool and experience in stakeholder moderation, the potential can be assessed, and the integration process can be supported. Waste heat is generated in many sectors of the manufacturing industry. Internal waste heat utilisation has become an established measure, driven by audits and economic interests. Once internal utilisation potentials are exhausted, the feasibility of external waste heat utilisation should be examined—whether as process heat in another facility, as heating energy for nearby buildings, or as heat for a local district heating network.
