Deliverable 5.1: Visualization components for sequences, networks, text, and high- dimensional data

Abstract

Research in HetERogeneous sEmantic Data integratIon for the guT-bRain interplaY (HEREDITARY) involves understanding properties, relationships and patterns in large and complex, heterogeneous data, to obtain knowledge from biomedical data sets. Interactive data visualization techniques help to overview and make sense of large and complex data sets, by finding appropriate visual representations and user interactions for the data. Also, interaction allows to drill down and view the data from different perspectives. Importantly, we can include data analysis algorithms into visualizations which can then be interactively controlled by the analyst. Resulting are Visual Analytics workflows which support domain users to effectively and efficiently analyze data. Work Package 5 in HEREDITARY focuses on the research and development of effective tools for interactive visual data analysis, supporting the HEREDITARY use cases. This deliverable presents the results achieved in the first 12 months of the project, in developing visualization components for non-spatial data. The components have been informed by data and use cases from HEREDITARY partners and available open research data. The components are the basis for building standalone applications to address specific HEREDITARY use cases in the next project steps, including functionality for interactive search and user guidance
