This document gives an elaborate status overview of the FAIR-EASE project activitiessurrounding the "Data Lake" objective of WP4 as described in the architecture layoutprovided by deliverable "D4.1 -Landscaping exercise: the (meta)data, software, and cloudneeds for the data lake". It re-affirms the vision and component abstraction from thatdocument and describes how that is getting effectively implemented and deployed, includingan extensive listing of the evaluated and applied technologies. It also provides links to theactivities in the neighbouring technical work-packages: "D2.4 -FAIR-EASE Data Discovery and Access Service -First Release", from WP2 on thedirectory and access service- and "D3.1 -Specifications of FAIR-EASE Earth Analytics Lab and implementation plan" from WP3 on the "Earth Analytical Lab" We gladly applaud the interdependence of these documents and attribute it to the decisionof the project-office to adopt the "devcycle" strategy to organise the progress in the FAIREASE project. It has proven instrumental in sustaining the dialogue across the work packages.
