Filosofía y conocimiento. Monografía técnica 26311M9 v.1 - 2023

Abstract

This monograph provides elements for the acquisition of an informed and critical perspective on the conditions of possibility of knowledge, its sources, typology and methodologies for interdisciplinary work. The first part examines the core components that distinguish rigorous knowledge from pseudoscience. This includes institutional aspects that characterise research in academic or corporate contexts and related professional accreditation processes. Genuine and spurious versions of scepticism are examined, including its instrumentalisation by denialist actors, with case studies focusing on climate change and historical revisionism, among others. Numerous examples and cases are analysed in order to identify conflicts of interest and deficiencies in the public communication of scientific activity or its applications, which can distort public perceptions of the social benefits of scientific knowledge and the credibility of the various actors involved in its funding, development and application. The final sections focus on the processes of appropriation of research results and the role of intermediaries in cultural production and dissemination, comparing different models of access to knowledge and the social implications of the restrictions imposed by profit-seeking actors in this process. On this basis, the characteristic aspects of the knowledge society and the infrastructure that makes it possible are analysed, distinguishing it from other dynamics inherent to the information economy, which, in the technological and geopolitical scenario of the 21st century, undermine the foundations of democracy by restricting access to culture and knowledge for large sectors of the population.
