Abstract The stratigraphy of the Liassic to Oxfordian succession of the Brora Outlier in NE Scotland is described with reference to the standard ammonite zonation. Within the Liassic Dunrobin Bay Formation two new members are proposed, the Dunrobin Bay Argillaceous Member and the Dunrobin Bay Sandstone Member. The palynostratigraphy is discussed and the ranges of taxa recorded. Comparisons are made with assemblages of similar age in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Dorset and Northern France on a zone by zone basis. An analysis of the similarities and differences between the Brora assemblages and those to the south suggests that marine microplankton show a degree of provinciality during Callovian times.
