A previously proposed theory of rapid facies changes between the Eilde quartzite and Eilde schist in the Garbh Bheinn area of western Scotland is rejected. Recent and additional mapping indicates exotic quartzite outcrops within the fault-intrusion of Glencoe, and these probably represent down-stoped fragments of the roof, since eroded. The slides which have been postulated in the literature to explain rapid variations in thickness are accepted, and an additional slide between the Binnein quartzite and Eilde schist on the eastern side of the Garbh Bheinn downfold is indicated.
