Abstract
The word education is often interpreted in a restricted sense as referring to the activities which happen in schools and similar types of institutional setting. We refer to the "educational system" or we speak of "education" as a sort of synonym for schooling. If we look at the word in terms of its Latin roots, it is clear that it can be thought about in much broader terms. Educare refers not just to "to educate" but also to "to rear" or "to bring up" and similarly the Latin word educator describes someone who "trains or brings up'.
