Abstract
The existence of a specific carrier for pyruvate in the inner membrane of rat liver mitochondria is now well established [l-4] . Based on indirect evidence it has been suggested that glucagon, adrenaline or dibutyryl cyclic AMP act on liver cells to stimulate the operation of the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier and that this effect is involved in the increase in the rate of gluconeogenesis which follows exposure to those agents [.5,6].
