Abstract

Ensayo 1: El ensayo (polifónico) comenta tres publicaciones de no ficción que no parecen guardar entre sí relación alguna. Sus autoras respectivas, de distintas nacionalidades –norteamericana, canadiense, italiana–, no trabajaron juntas, aunque Lucy Lippard y Joyce Wieland se conocían. Los tres libros cosecharon un eco desigual: en tanto que Seis años… es considerado desde hace décadas una referencia fundamental en la historia del arte del siglo XX, Autoritratto ha circulado mucho menos (acaba de traducirse al inglés y aún no se ha volcado al español), y la entrevista de Pierre Théberge a Joyce Wieland apenas si se ha leído. Dos de ellos son, en apariencia, ensayos, en tanto que el tercero se presenta como un catálogo de exposición cuyo único texto es una entrevista… A primera vista, pues, muy poco vincula estos tres libros, aparte de que se publicaron casi en los mismos años y sus autoras eran, las tres, mujeres de profundas convicciones feministas y muy interesadas en el cruce entre arte y activismo político. Sin embargo estos libros, aunque no suelen compararse nunca, comparten un rasgo significativo: los tres, cada uno a su manera, desbordan los cauces formales clásicos del género de la crítica de arte, abriendo caminos hacia formas de experimentación textual que, aún hoy, siguen conservando su potencial inspirador –liberador incluso– en el terreno de la escritura crítica y académica sobre arte.
