Endotoxinas en preparaciones intratecales hospitalarias

Abstract

Las endotoxinas constituyen un subconjunto de pirógenos, procedentes de bacterias Gram-negativas, cuya administración a pacientes de forma inadvertida puede desencadenar, a través de una cascada de respuestas patogénicas como shock séptico irreversible, hipotensión, neutropenia y elevadas concentraciones de hidrocortisona y proteína C-reactiva, desde fiebre hasta la muerte. Debido a su peligrosidad, es necesario garantizar que la carga de endotoxinas que se administra a un paciente no supera los límites permitidos. Para ello, se ha desarrollado una aplicación informática que calcula la carga total de endotoxinas de preparaciones parenterales en general y en particular de las intratecales que se realizan en el servicio de farmacia; advirtiendo además al usuario cuando esta carga supera el nivel máximo aceptable.
