Abstract

La dentición primaria ha recibido escasa atención, y pocos trabajos han estudiado sus características de normalidad, a pesar de ser la predecesora de la dentición secundaria o permanente y en consecuencia de tener la posibilidad de adelantarnos aspectos de su futuro desarrollo. El presente trabajo parte de la consideración de que la relación normal de oclusión en dentición primaria debe responder a unas características definidas de dientes y arcadas. Seleccionamos 42 niños y 42 niñas madrileños que cumplían los siguientes criterios de inclusión: poseer dentición primaria completa y en normooclusión, lo que implicaba una sobremordida entre 0 y 3 milímetros y un resalte entre 0 y 2 milímetros, una relación canina de clase I y un plano terminal recto o con escalón mesial. En sus modelos de estudio analizamos las variables objeto del trabajo: dimensiones dentarias, presencia de diastemas y su localización, clasificándolos en diastemas interincisivos, espacios de primate y diastemas intermolares, y dimensiones de arcada. Llevamos a cabo un análisis estadístico descriptivo, de comparación y de relación de las variables estudiadas y le añadimos un análisis de tipología, que nos permitió establecer clases o grupos con valores similares dentro de las características que estudiamos.
