Abstract

La mordida cruzada posterior unilateral (mcpu) constituye una de las entidades de mayor prevalencia entre las disarmonias oclusales, a pesar de lo cual aun no sabemos exactamente como influye sobre la actividad de los músculos masticatorios ni sobre las funciones orales. Por tanto, el principal objetivo de este trabajo es estudiar las características neuromusculares de esta maloclusión. Para ello se han estudiado dos poblaciones, una con mcpu y otra sin tal alteración, comparando la actividad electromiográfica de los músculos masticatorios y la kinesiografia del reposo clínico, deglución y masticación, empleando el sistema myo-tronics. Los resultados reflejan diferencias significativas entre los dos grupos. En los sujetos con mcpu hubo mayor asimetría muscular y mayor porcentaje de deglución atípica. La desviación funcional de la mandíbula persistió en reposo y deglución y no hubo relación entre el lado de la mordida cruzada y el lado preferido para masticar
