Abstract

El cáncer de mama es el segundo cáncer más frecuente en el mundo y el tumor maligno más frecuente entre las mujeres. Cambios en las células tumorales junto con el microambiente tumoral facilitan el desprendimiento de células tumorales de la masa primaria del tumor. Cualquier nodo que reciba directamente el drenaje linfático del tumor primario será el ganglio centinela GC, que se convierte en el primer nodo involucrado en el proceso de metastatización de un tumor vía sistema linfático. Durante años las pacientes han sido sometidas a la disección axilar de la cadena ganglionar completa para evitar que estas células se diseminaran al resto del organismo, pero a la vez, esta intervención provoca una importante morbilidad. La técnica de la biopsia del ganglio centinela (BGC) surge de la idea de que la diseminación de células tumorales a través de los ganglios linfáticos se produce de manera ordenada, de modo que la ausencia de células tumorales metastásicas en el GC predice, de forma precisa, la ausencia de metástasis en los nodos axilares restantes.. Los GC extraídos se analizan por medio de tinción con hematoxilina-eosina (H&E) y por tinción inmunohistoquímica (IHQ). Se ha demostrado que con estas técnicas se produce un número importante de falsos negativos, quedando metástasis ocultas sin identificar...
