Abstract

El Cadmio se trata de un metal perteneciente a los metales de transición, el cual, debido a sus características químicas y su facilidad de absorción y movilidad, permite que éste pueda encontrarse en diferentes medios de manera estable, pudiendo ocasionar fenómenos de contaminación y generarse un problema de la salud de pública. El incremento de la concentración de este metal lo debemos tanto a su origen y producción natural, como a procesos tales como la minería y la actividad industrial, suponiendo un problema actual para las personas y generando una preocupación a nivel ambiental. Para ello, se estudia el desarrollo de diferentes técnicas que permitan reducir la ecotoxicidad que genera el metal contaminante a través del aprovechamiento del potencial biológico de determinados grupos de microorganismos, consiguiendo una disminución de su biodisponibilidad y reduciendo su concentración en los diferentes medios.
