Depresión: Importancia de la adherencia al tratamiento

Abstract

La adherencia al tratamiento es el grado de conducta que un paciente, en relación con la toma de la medicación, el seguimiento de una dieta o la modificación de los hábitos de vida se corresponden a lo asignado por el médico; esto es lo que hace diferenciar entre adherencia y cumplimiento, ya que la adherencia implica una participación activa del paciente en la terapia. La depresión es una de las enfermedades mentales más prevalentes del mundo, y per sé es un factor que influye en la adherencia al tratamiento. El tratamiento antidepresivo puede ser farmacológico y no farmacológico, y generalmente es un tratamiento de largo plazo. Existen múltiples métodos para evaluar la adherencia al tratamiento, tanto objetivos como subjetivos; siendo los más utilizados en la práctica clínica los subjetivos, en concreto los autocuestionarios, como Morisky-Green y Hayness-Suckett. Factores como el sexo, la edad, características sociodemográficas, creencias o actitud del paciente, tratamiento, o incluso la relación médico-paciente pueden afectar en mayor o menor medida a la adherencia al tratamiento antidepresivo. Esto puede traer consigo consecuencias tanto económicas como clínicas, siendo necesario buscar y aplicar una serie de estrategias de mejora.
