Aplicaciones terapéuticas de los anticuerpos monoclonales en cáncer

Abstract

La inmunoterapia, también denominada terapia biológica, es un tipo de tratamiento para el cáncer que estimula las defensas naturales del cuerpo a fin de combatir el cáncer. A diferencia de los demás tratamientos disponibles no se dirige a destruir las células del tumor, sino que su acción es estimular el sistema inmunitario del paciente enfermo para que sea el propio sistema inmunitario el que ataque y destruya el tumor. Los anticuerpos monoclonales han supuesto una nueva alternativa terapéutica en el tratamiento de cánceres, tanto avanzadas como metastásicos y/o refractarios. A través de sus mecanismos de acción son capaces de unirse a la célula diana y destruirla, además de activar la citotoxicidad celular dependiente de anticuerpos (ADCC). En este trabajo se hace una revisión de los principales anticuerpos monoclonales que son utilizados en oncología.
