Vida intelectual de la Argentina de fines del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX: un balance historiográfico

Abstract

Este artículo examina las contribuciones que desde distintas disciplinas se han ocupado de la vida intelectual del cambio de siglo en Argentina. El trabajo propone organizar los aportes sobre el período de acuerdo a cinco grandes intereses: 1) la “generación del ‘80”, 2) la recepción de la corriente positivista y el florecimiento de una “cultura científica”, 3) el nacionalismo y la cuestión nacional, 4) el Estado como dispositivo de control social, y 5) la profesionalización de las disciplinas. En conjunto, el trabajo aporta una perspectiva panorámica y un balance de las principales investigaciones sobre el período en cuestión.

This article examines the contributions that different disciplines have outlined on the intellectual life of the turn of the century Argentina. The paper proposes to organize the production on the period in five major themes: 1) the so called “generación del ochenta”, 2) the reception of positivism and the emergence of a "scientific culture", 3) nationalism and the national question, 4) the State as a device devoted to social control, and 5) the professionalization of intellectual activity. Overall, the paper provides a panoramic view of the main theses and perspectives on the period.
