Sismicidad y sismotectónica de Perú

Abstract

En este estudio se presenta las principales características de la sismicidad y Sismotectónica de Perú. Se analiza la distribución de la sismicidad en función de su profundidad. Se ha calculado el mecanismo focal de 20 terremotos ocurridos entre 1990-I996(mb ~ 5.8) a partir de registros digitales de banda ancha, aplicando diversos métodos: polaridad de la onda p, modelización análisis espectral de ondas de volumen. La distribución de los esfuerzos principales se deduce a partir de los mecanismos locales de 48 sismos calculados por otros autores y de les 20 'terremotos estudiados en este trabajo. Los resultados obtenidos, muestran que los terremotos superficiales (h 350 km) presentan ejes de tensión horizontales en dirección E-W en el borde Perú-Brasil, y N-S en el límite Pero-Bolivia, lo que puede indicar un diferente origen. A partir de estos resultados se ha elaborado un esquema sismotectónico para Perú.
