Socio-pedagogical work with Roma children

Abstract

The dissertation is focused on satisfying the need to develop and implement more effective strategies for socio-pedagogical work with Roma children to support their educational integration. The understandings of the socio-pedagogical work, the social pedagogy and the social work are studied, and the views on the acceptance and the distinction between them are considered. Information on Roma groups in Bulgaria is provided, state policies and institutions responsible for integration are examined, as well as some approaches to work in the Roma community such as Roma mediators, mobile social work and the multidisciplinary team for work in the Roma community. The educational integration and the school adaptation of the Roma children are considered as a socio-pedagogical problem. A model for group socio-pedagogical work with Roma children was tested and a survey was conducted among preschool pedagogues. A technological model for group socio-pedagogical work with Roma children at the age of 3-7 years has been proposed - as a strategy for increasing the readiness of Roma children for school education.
