Abstract

The rights of the child are human rights and they have to be respected. In addition to the basic human rights and liberties, there are special rights specified for children. The children are entitled to them due to their immaturity and vulnerability. This isprecisely why achild has to be protected appropriately against all forms of exploitation. Therefore, special protection and care are dedicated to children.Childhood is the period of growing up, learning and play, and the adults are the ones who have to take care of the child's better future. The rights of the child are settled with several international documents: Declaration of Children's Rights, Convention on the Rights of the Child, European Convention on the exercise of children's rights. Despite so extensive regulation there are still violations of the rights of the child in the framework of the family, governmental institutions and organizations, and in the circle of their peer. In such cases the government has the jurisdiction to intervene into such circumstances and sanction the offenders. In addition to the government, there is a series of nongovernmental organizations which follow the implementation of the rights of the child and offer help in case of violation of their rights.

Poleg države obstaja še vrsta nevladnih organizacij, ki spremlja uresničevanje otrokovih pravic in otrokom nudi pomoč v primeru kršitev njihovih pravic.
