The theme consists of two parts: the first refers to the sign, and the second deals with the sacrament. Each of them is distinct from the other and has its own logical structure, although in a theological approach they are inseparable, since the sign is judged by reference to the sacrament, and every sacrament is concretised in a sign. For the theologian, the one and the other consideration, if separated, have no reason for being, since the sign confers support to the sacrament, and in the sacrament the raison for beingof a certain sign is made concrete.
