ABSTRACT: We can say that terms of language and translation studies do not give clear messages. Such one of the vague and obscure terms is also the term of word-for-word translaiton. This term is introduced as an the opposite of the sene-for-sense translation. However, all translations are made to convey meaning. According to us sense-for-sense translaiton is translation of intention and word-forword translation is the translation of the dictionary meaning and this translation should be named like this. In this article we will discuss such a problem of nomenclature. Keywords: Sense-for-sense translaiton, translation studies, word-for-word translation, term.
