Kapucyni na Malcie

Abstract

Początki osiedlenia się kapucynów na Malcie sięgają roku 1588, kiedy powstała pierwsza placówka w pobliżu murów miejskich Valetty w miejscowości zwanej Floriana. Jednak pierwszym kapucynem, którego pobyt został odnotowany w annałach historii na Malcie, jest o. Robert z Eboli, który pojawił się na wyspie na początku roku 1565 i zasłużył się w obronie Malty przed najazdem Turków. Późniejsze powstanie kustodii i prowincji zakonnej oraz rozwój ducha misyjnego i wieloraka posługa braci kapucynów na Malcie i Gozo zasługuje na ich zbadanie i prezentację szerszemu gronu odbiorców. W niniejszym artykule zostaną przedstawione dzieje przybycia i rozwoju obecności kapucynów na Malcie oraz ich wysiłek misyjny i aktualne uwarunkowania rozwoju Kościoła w tym katolickim kraju. Capuchins arrived in Malta in 1588 and in 1740 founded the Custody , which was raised to the rank of a province in 1840. The brothers had served as hospital chaplains and confessors and preach parish missions. A particular expression of apostolic zeal was a missionary commitment in Tunisia, Brazil, India and Kenya. The brothers founded mission stations and organized local Church. Currently, three confreres of the Province of Malta are the bishops. During the secularization is reducing the number of vocations, but the brothers still bear witness of fraternal life and prayer and concern for the poor and marginalized, leading foundation supporting homeless and socially non conformed people.
