Dinámicas de la segregación urbana : movilidad cotidiana en Montevideo

Abstract

La movilidad es un aspecto crucial de la vida urbana. Las personas se desplazan cotidianamente usando diferentes medios de transporte, con objetivos y recorridos variados, implicando tiempos y circuitos distintos. Esas dinámicas se estructuran con claridad en base a las posiciones sociales de los habitantes; desde las inferiores los movimientos y en consecuencia el acceso a las oportunidades, están severamente limitados, son claramente más dificultosos. Además, la movilidad estructura la visibilidad, la aparición de Otros: la distancia social se expresa en el establecimiento de fronteras, de barreras de acceso. Por ejemplo, de un lado se dicen rodeados, cercados, se encierran ante la presencia de “sujetos peligrosos”, y confinados a la localidad donde residen; del otro lado, el temor se vive como acecho de figuras amenazantes que vienen de fuera, tras los márgenes, y parecen haberse saltado “su lugar”
