Estimación de curvas de Engel para el gasto de los hogares uruguayos : una comparación de las encuestas de gasto de los hogares entre 2005/06 y 2016/17.

Abstract

Se estudian la estructura y las elasticidades del gasto en bienes alimenticios y no alimenticios para Uruguay en base a las Encuestas de Gastos e Ingresos de los Hogares del INE para los años 2005-2006 y 2016-2017. Para esto, se estiman curvas de Engel para el conjunto de los hogares y por quintiles de ingreso. Dependiendo del nivel de censura se estima por MCO o Tobit, así como se corrige el gasto por endogeneidad a partir de método de variables instrumentales. Se encuentra que la proporción del gasto destinada a alimentos responde a la Ley de Engel entre hogares y en el tiempo; mientras que los bienes no alimenticios se comportan como bienes suntuarios, con excepción del gasto en Vivienda. Asimismo, los rubros Salud y Comunicaciones que eran suntuarios en 2005-2006, diez años después pasaron a ser necesarios. Por último, se observan diferencias estadísticamente significativas en las elasticidades del gasto por estrato de ingreso y a lo largo del tiempo.
