Cultivo del melón en invernadero

Abstract

Los datos sobre producción y comercio, a nivel nacional y europeo sobre melón, indican una posibilidad de expansión de este cultivo para la producción en los meses de Abril, Mayo y Junio, meses en los que sólo se puede producir bajo invernadero. El cultivo de melón en invernadero es habitual en Andalucia Oriental en donde se da una interesante diversificación de cultivos bajo invernadero al contrario que en las demás zonas productoras en donde existe una excesiva tendencia al monocultivo. En nuestra Comunidad se cultiva el pimiento en el sur de Alicante y el tomate en el resto, cultivándose bajo invernadero otros cultivos en muy pequeña proporción como judía, pepino, calabacín, fresón, melón y sandia. El melón bajo invernadero a menudo se hace como cultivo secundario, para cubrir una época imprevista y con frecuencia no se le aplican las técnicas más adecuadas, obteniéndose en consecuencia resultados mediocres que no incentivan su expansión. Existe realmente una carencia de información sobre las técnicas de cultivo de melón bajo invernadero a nivel de todo el sector, tanto en agricultores como en técnicos, este desconocimiento dificulta gravemente su implantación. Esta situación nos ha movido a confeccionar esta publicación que trata de recopilar la información existente y la experiencia que hemosido adquiriendo a lo largo del tiempo que hemos dedicado a este cultivo. Hemos tratado de ofrecer una información de la forma más clara y concisa que nos es permitido, pero al mismo tiempo con un apoyo experimental que garantice, en la medida que es posible, el rigor de lo expuesto, con ello esperamos que resulte útil para el lector.
