Fauna útil en cítricos: control de plagas

Abstract

En los cultivos que el hombre realiza para sus diversos fines, existen un gran número de animales que ocasionan grandes pérdidas, (Garrido y Beitia, 1992), en cítricos se citan en España alrededor de 80 especies de fitófagos (Garrido y Ventura, 1993), que ocasionan daños diversos. Las plagas que viven y se desarrollan al aire libre se mueven e incrementan sus poblaciones en una frecuencia temporal, de acuerdo con las condiciones climáticas donde habitan perfectamente cronometradas en el tiempo, ya sean en animales monovoltinos o polivoltinos por mucho que incidamos en los cultivos con abonos, labores, etc., no alteramos por lo general la dinámica progresiva de los insectos en cuanto al crecimiento secular de sus poblaciones y número de generaciones, ya que las condiciones climáticas no son alteradas y por lo tanto tienden de un año a otro a completar sus ciclos biológicos de una forma más o menos estable, lo que ayuda a desarrollar programas de control satisfactorio. En cambio si alteramos las condiciones climáticas por técnicas culturales, (cultivos bajo plástico y bajo malla) o cambiamos la fenología de la planta, que hace que en todo momento pueda continuar los ciclos biológicos sin interrupción como ocurre en olivo, cuando se pasa del cultivo de secano al riego o en cítricos cuando se cambia el riego por inundación al localizado, ello puede originar un aumento en el número de generaciones y en las poblaciones de los fitófagos, lo que conduce a proliferaciones, siendo en ocasiones imposible de desarrollar programas de control satisfactorio Garrido (1994). Todo lo anterior pude conducir a que los cultivos sufran daños que ocasionan grandes pérdidas, desde unas evaluaciones medias que pueden ser de 10 o 15% de la producción hasta del 100%.
