Discursive signals, with their fundamental role in textual construction and communicative progression, represent one of the main obstacles that Italian students face when learning Spanish. There has been, however, a general lack of contrastive studies taking into account the peculiarities of both linguistic systems. It is, therefore, the first time, and not only in Italy, that a contrastive work of this kind and scope appears in print. It avails itself of an ample and focused bibliography and presents, on several points, an original contribution not only from a contrastive standpoint but also, more specifically, from the viewpoint of Spanish and, in some ways, Italian linguistics.
