Abstract

Giovanni Boccaccio e la sua opera vengono presentati secondo un originale criterio tematico: il romanziere affiancato al biografo, le novelle sensuali, un cui trionfa l'erotismo e l'amore per la vita, accanto a quelle dedicate al pianto e all'elaborazione del dolore. Rivisitato attraverso prose e versi, Boccaccio si rivela un grande intellettuale del Medioevo che mette la filosofia in bocca ai suoi gentiluomini anche quando conversano amabilmente in un giardino, e che allo stesso tempo è proiettato dentro al problema (tutto umanistico e rinascimentale) di difendere e celebrare la poesia. Ma si riscopre attraverso le opere anche il Boccaccio uomo, ora intento a consolare l'amico Pino de Rossi ora a gestire il difficile rapporto con l'amico Francesco Petrarca: quel Petrarca assunto, insieme a Dante, come maestro, la cui lezione Boccaccio si impegna a trasmettere ai posteri con la passione di un allievo curioso, entusiasta e modesto a un tempo.
