Abstract

It is necessary to carry out preliminary studies and researches in order to conserve the historical buildings by maintaining their originality and characteristics and to determine the conservation processes that the monument needs. Thus, it may be possible to preserve the work by applying the most necessary conservation procedures with minimum intervention. Diagnosis of deterioration should be carried out to identify the features, problems and the need for conservation of the monument. In this thesis, the diagnosis of deterioration, which is one of the most important stages before the conservation and restoration works of historical buildings, is emphasized. As a case study the Odeon of Arykanda was studied. The deterioration analysis was carried out by transferring the deteriorations in the odeon to the survey studies. With the mapping method, one of the non-destructive techniques, the deteriorations in the odeon were diagnosed and evaluated with the cause-and-effect relationship. Samples were taken from the stone, mortar and plaster materials in the odeon in order to derive the right conservation and restoration proposals and to better conserve the material. In this context, X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (XRF), thin section optical microscope, basic physical tests, salt type and total salt tests, acidic aggregate/binder and aggregate granulometry analyzes were performed on the materials. Conservation proposals and steps were determined as a result of the diagnosis of deterioration and archaeometric analyses.

Tarihi yapıları özgünlük ve özelliklerini devam ettirerek koruyabilmek ve eserin ihtiyacı olan koruma işlemlerini belirlemek üzere ön incelemeler ve araştırmalar yapmak gerekir. Böylece eseri, en az müdahale ile en gereken koruma işlemlerini uygulayarak korumak mümkün olabilir. Eserin özellikleri, sorunları ve ihtiyacı olan koruma işlemlerini belirlemek için bozulmaların teşhisi çalışması yapılmalıdır. Bu tez çalışmasında tarihi yapıların koruma ve onarım çalışmaları öncesinde en önemli aşamalardan biri olan bozulmaların teşhisi üzerinde durulmuştur. Örnek çalışma olarak Arykanda antik kentinde bulunan odeon yapısı çalışılmıştır. Yapıda meydana gelen bozulmalar rölöve çalışmalarına aktarılarak bozulma analizi oluşturulmuştur. Tahribatsız tekniklerden haritalandırma yöntemi ile odeon yapısında görülen bozulmalar teşhis edilerek neden sonuç ilişkisi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Doğru koruma ve onarım önerilerinin verilebilmesi ve malzemenin daha iyi korunabilmesi için odeon yapısında bulunan taş, harç ve sıva malzemelerden örnekler alınmıştır. Bu bağlamda malzemelerde X-Işını Floresans Spektrometresi (XRF), ince kesit optik mikroskop, temel fiziksel testler, tuz türü, ve toplam tuz testleri, agrega bağlayıcı ve agrega granülometrisi analizleri yapılmıştır. Yapılan bozulmaların teşhisi çalışması ve arkeometrik analizler sonucu koruma önerileri ve adımları belirlenmiştir.
