Abstract

VII ABSTRACT GENOTYPE X ENVIRONMENT INTERACTIONS, HERITABILITY AND ADAPTABILITY FOR YIELD AND SOME AGRONOMIC TRAITS IN WINTER-SOWING CHICKPEA ATIŞ, Özhan MSc in Department of Field Crops Supervisor: Doç. Dr. Metin Altınbaş January 2002, 55 pages Genotype x year interactions, genotypic variances and heritabilities were estimated and adaptability of individuval genotypes to winter sowing using regression analysis were studied for yield and some agronomic traits of newly-developed 13 kabuli chickpea lines and one cultivar were tested at Bornova, Izmir, during the four growing seasons (1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001). The combined analyses of variance across years indicated that there were significant differences among genotypic means. It was observed that the differences among years and genotype x year interaction effects were significant for all the traits except the primary branches/plant and plant height, respectively. It might be suggested that the secondary branches/plant and pods/plant were most appropriate traits to use in winter chickpea breeding programme considering the genotypic variances, heritabilities andVII expected genetic gains. It was concluded that two out of all chickpea lines evaluated had better adaptability for winter sowing. Key words: Chickpea, Cicer arietinum, genotypic variability, heritability, stability, adaptation.
