Caracterización radiológica de agua de consumo humano

Abstract

El agua de consumo humano puede contener sustancias radiactivas que presentan un riesgo para la salud, por lo que se han establecido criterios para evaluar la seguridad del agua con respecto a su contenido de radionucleidos. En este trabajo se han determinado las concentraciones de actividad de isótopos de uranio 238U, 235U, 234U, isótopos de torio 232Th y polonio 210Po en un total de 7 muestras de aguas minerales embotelladas y agua del grifo de la empresa EMASESA. Para ello se ha empleado radioquímica de separación cromatográfica con procesos de electrodeposición y autodeposición para la preparación de fuentes delgadas emisoras alfa, las cuales se han medido mediante espectrometría de partículas alfa con detectores de silicio. Las concentraciones de actividad obtenidas están en el rango de 1.0 – 24.3 mBq/L para el 238U, 4.1 – 77.8 mBq/L para el 234U; para el torio 232Th se tiene un rango entre 4.3 – 9.0 mBq/L y un rango entre 5.6 – 65.6 mBq/L para el 210Po. Todas ellas se encuentran por debajo del nivel de referencia establecido por la Unión Europea y las legislaciones españolas. Los resultados han mostrado que las aguas de consumo humano accesibles para la población de Sevilla son aptas desde un punto de vista radiológico.
