Abstract

Il desiderio di apparire belli e sani, di sentirsi accettati dal gruppo, di seguire la moda fa sì che gli adolescenti cerchino, a volte ossessivamente, di essere sempre più abbronzati. Questo atteggiamento è sicuramente favorito, oltre che dall'esporsi al sole, dalla proliferazione di centri estetici e palestre a cui gli adolescenti hanno libero accesso e dove possono trovare lampade e lettini abbronzanti. Circa il 50% delle adolescenti utilizza regolarmente questi presidi ed il 73% ammette di usare irregolarmente creme e schermi protettivi nonostante una o più scottature nell'anno precedente. I lettini abbronzanti e le lampade emettono principalmete raggi UV tipo A (95-99%) e, in misura molto minore, UV tipo B (1-5%). L'intensità delle radiazioni UV prodotte da questi strumenti è 10-15 volte maggiore di quella che si ottiene con l'esposizione al sole alle ore 12. Ne deriva che il periodo adolescenziale rappresenta una fase particolarmente a rischio. In questa breve rassegna descriveremo gli aspetti generali alla esposizione dei raggi UV, i possibili effetti negativi ed i presidi per ridurre od eliminare i possibili rischi.
